Ballymac GAA Club AGM 2020 - History was made in Ballymac GAA Club on Sunday last when our AGM was held via ZOOM. Great credit to Fionnán Fitzgerald and Mike Sweeney who organised the meeting. It went off very well and was a novelty. Despite this, we hope we can all meet in person for our AGM of 2021! At the beginning of the meeting a minute’s silence was held for all our deceased members and former player David Leen was in all our thoughts as Fr Gearóid Walsh said a prayer for all our deceased members. Fionnán Fitzgerald reported on the club’s activities for 2020 in a very comprehensive report that is available on our web site. Chairman Mike Sweeney addressed the meeting and said the year was defined by our response to Covid and how we successfully coached and played our games despite all the obstacles in our way. Once we got a window to play, he said he was heartened by the response from coaches and players. He was grateful for the positive way everyone stuck to their tasks and took on extra burdens all year. The chairman announced that Frank O’Rahilly was standing down as manager of the senior team. He thanked Frank for all his time with the senior team and all the input he had into coaching and wellbeing in the club. It was a difficult task especially for Frank who had a very young family. No new nominations to positions on the Officer Board had been received and all were re-elected for 2021. The following motions were passed unanimously at the meeting. Motion: Club Rule regarding U-12s, where you play with the A Team (Blue Team) if you are 12 years of age on the given year and you play with the B Team (Gold Team) if you are 11 years of age on the given year to be changed to U-11’s from the 2021 season as per the age grades changing to uneven U-11’s, U-13’s, U-15’s and U-17’s. New Club Rule: U-11 age group to go by age and not by ability when picking teams for all games, this means if the games are 11 a side oldest player must play with the A Team (Blue Team) and same with the subs. Players may go down to the B Team (Gold Team) if the parent is agreeable it will benefit the player’s progress U-13’s to go on ability and enter 2 teams into competition. The AGM of Ballymac Coiste na nÓg took place on Sunday last. Ger Collins read the secretaries report for 2020 and he outlined all the work done in the year. He thanked all the coaches for their work and determination to ensure our games were safe for all players during the year. He especially thanked Fionnán Fitzgerald and Mike Sweeney for their help in sorting coaching times and game times for the underage players when our training facilities were under extreme pressure. He said he was very grateful to everyone in Coiste na nÓg who worked so hired and tirelessly to get our games played. In his chairman’s address Declan O’Connell thanked everyone for their help during the year. He thanked Ger Collins who kept all games and referees on time all year. He thanked all the referees, coaches, parents and players for their wonderful contribution to Coiste na nÓg especially in the very difficult year we had. He said it was a superb effort made by everyone. Mike Sweeney, Chairman of Ballymac GAA Club thanked Coiste na nÓg especially Declan O’Connell, Ger Collins and Stephen O’Brien for their wonderful work in 2020. It was a year of challenges and he said it gave him great heart every time he met them at planning meetings in 2020. Their enthusiasm and willingness to face every challenge was great.
