CHURCH FUNDRAISER

A message from Fr. Pat CreanLynch, parish priest.

Firstly I would like to take this opportunity once again to wish you all a very happy New Year. However, as I wish you well I am conscious that we are still very much in the grip of the coronavirus Covid-19 pandemic that has affected the whole world over the last year or so.

This pandemic has caused many changes to our way of life and many restrictions have been imposed on us. For example, for several months last year and again at the present time, no congregations are allowed at our Masses except for small numbers at funerals and weddings.

As a result of this many parishes, which had not previously been doing so, started streaming Masses via Facebook or with webcams. Last November we ourselves in Ardfert Parish started streaming Masses via Facebook. This has been quite satisfactory but is dependent on mobile date for the Mobile Phone being used for this

purpose since there is no internet in our churches.

However, the reality is that many people are not on Facebook and so we can’t reach them in this way. If we were to install webcams in our churches, the churches would have internet provided and we would be able to reach a lot more people. However, to install a webcam in a church costs about €3,500 so to do so in our two churches would cost about €7,000. That is money we do not have since our Parish has a debt of around €230,000 following the much-needed work that was done in both churches in the last 10 years.

Therefore I am delighted that Brenda O’Connor and Helen Geary have initiated a fundraiser to raise money for these webcams. Brenda has set up a GoFundMe page through which people can donate to the fund. She and Helen have also had cards printed through which people can donate as well. In addition, they will have parishioners at both churches this Saturday 16th January from 12pm to 1 pm to collect donations.

Anyone who donates money by any of these means will be included in a raffle with three very generous prizes: 1st prize: €250; 2nd prize: €150 and 3rd prize: €100. For more information, you can contact Brenda at 087 6994899 or Helen at 086 3317101 or the parish office at 7134131. I would like to thank most sincerely Brenda and Helen and those helping them with this project and in anticipation, I would like to thank all those who will support it.

ST. BRENDANS AC

As our St.Brendan’s AC Virtual 5k event is getting closer there is still plenty of time to register and join in on the virtual party.Run or walk 5k in the comfort of your own

locality, next weekend between Friday 15th to Sunday 17th of January. Due to the year that it was, St. Brendan’s AC was unable to hold our Annual Banna 5k/10k Run last August. As Banna event is our only fundraiser for the year, obviously we were disappointed to have to cancel it.

This support helps us raise much-needed funds to enable us to provide training and development of all our athletes - Juveniles, Masters and Fit 4 Life, throughout the year.

As we continued training for our athletes during last year both virtually and when we could according to covid-19 guidelines and athletic Ireland guidelines, we feel, that what better way to show these results of the training is through a virtual event and hopefully raise funds along the way.Your support is always greatly appreciated. Register in the link below https://www.myrunresults.com/.../ st_brendans.../4035/detailsFamily options are available. Tee-shirt and medal options available also.

Donation option also if you are unable to walk/run but would like to donate in support.Entry fee includes access to results portal and downloadable certificate. Please feel free to send on your selfies of the event and let this virtual party happen. As always we look forward to your support and Thank you.
