COLD SPELL

The recent cold spell resulted in roads being hazardous at times particularly bye roads which would not have been treated with grit or salt.

The main Castleisland to Ballydesmond road was regularly gritted or salted which meant that this stretch of roadway was always safe for vehicle users and a word of thanks and appreciation is certainly due to Kerry County Council employee Moss Horan for his diligent attention to making this road safe whenever a cold spell strikes.

KERRYS CALL

We’re all in another lockdown presently and these very difficult and trying times, it’s very important that people keep in contact with each other and this applies even more so to people living alone, the housebound and the elderly.

A new phone service “Kerry’s Call” was launched recently and it offers a lending ear to this living alone in an effort to combat loneliness during these isolating times.

This new service allows people to feel less isolated, reduces loneliness and encourages them to feel safe and secure throughout these difficult times.

The service is available Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 11am to 4pm. For further information or to sign up for this service contact local lady Julianne O Connor on 087 9126184 or email kerryscall@gmail.com.

HOPE SPRINGS ETERNAL

The new year of 2021 hasn’t started too well. Covid-19 is still rampant and another surge is with us. We are in our third lockdown and that’s not good for the entire population. Schools are closed for the month of January.

The only good news is that vaccines are coming our way and hopefully they will see the end of this highly dangerous and deadly pandemic.

We are nearly half way through the month of January, the “cocksstep” is evident in the evenings and Spring is just around the corner, so it’s onwards and upwards from here and let’s all hope for a good Summer with some aspect of normality to be enjoyed.
