Tralee residents call Joe Duffy to air grievances over parking issues

-

THINGS just got livelier for residents in St John’s Park and North Circular Road in their battle with the council as they took to Joe Duffy’s ‘Liveline Show’ to air their grievances. The residents, who spoke of their battle with the council in last week’s Kerryman, are still at loggerheads over the decision to prevent them from demarcating parking spaces in front of their homes.

Speaking on the popular radio show, Tommy Foley said assurances were granted by the outgoing town council when they erected permanent signs along the street asking drivers to respect ‘residents parking’.

Resident, Billy Cashman, told listeners how the council ‘pushed us’ into putting out things like ‘bricks and buckets’ as they took away the respectable signs residents used to mark private parking spaces.

While David Walsh mentioned that parking in St John’s Park has even hindered the fire and ambulance services. “Following a chimney fire here a few months ago a fire brigade couldn’t get into the estate and they had to walk with buckets of water to the house.”

The residents were then asked live on air if they would pay for a parking permit to which they answered with an unequivocal no. No formal contact between the residents and the council has yet taken place.

“Nothing is happening at the moment. The council haven’t approached or contacted us but we’re holding out as we are. We had representatives at last Thursday night’s meeting in the Grand Hotel over the new traffic plans just to present our position,” Mr Foley said.
