‘People in Kerry know something’

-

THE family of a Limerick man who disappeared 16 years ago say they are convinced that people in Kerry have information about his disappearance but are not coming forward.

Aengus ‘Gussie’ Shanahan (20) was last seen in Limerick City on February 11, 2000, but his uncle Aquinas Duffy believes that because of his close links to Kerry someone here knows something.

Gussie’s late mother, Nancy (nee Twohig), was a native of Caher, Kenmare where his aunt Maura Murphy still lives. His father Bob Shanahan is from Ballymacelligott, and his uncle John previously owned Shanahan’s Bar in Castleisland.

Mr Duffy said Gussie spent most of his summers between Kenmare and Castleisland and that his family is convinced that someone here has information.

“This is why we are appealing to the people of Kerry as well as Limerick. His family believe he was murdered and that his remains are still out there and we have no doubt that people in Kerry have information as well, yet they remain silent,” he said

He said Gussie’s mother Nancy, who passed away just six weeks ago, died broken hearted, never knowing what happened to her beloved son.

“Every time there was an appeal she would sit by the phone waiting for news but it never came,” he said. “Why are people remaining silent?”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Mr Duffy via his website, www.missing.ie.
