Kelly full of hope as Kerry centre opened
WHEN Console boss Paul Kelly visited Tralee back in April 2013 to officially open the charity’s first suicide resource centre in Kerry, he was full of enthusiasm and praise for those who had made it a reality.
In heart-felt speech, outlined below, the charity’s CEO said Console was delighted to provide a vital service to the wide community of Kerry:
“Console proposes to fully develop the centre to provide a comprehensive range of full-time services, some of which are new and unique to Console and a departure from traditional suicide bereavement-only counselling services.
“The centre will be aimed at providing resources, referral and advice to those in crisis or at risk of suicide.
“It will also provide free services to families tasked with supporting a loved one in suicidal crisis or after a suicide attempt...
“Every suicide is such a devastating loss but it is important to highlight that there are many helpful services and resources that can help. In the case of suicide, the time around the inquest can be a particularly traumatic period for the bereaved families. We know in our own work that extra support or information is usually needed around this time.
“The provision of professional services and community support at times is hugely important, especially if we want to minimise the harmful impact on others.
“In Kerry, we hope that Console can take on a crucial role in providing some stability and a safe haven at a very chaotic and distressing time.”
