Tommy’s pedal power aids Enable Ireland
KEEN cyclist Tommy Sheehy from Ballyroe has raised almost €11,000 for Enable Ireland Kerry Services after he completed a cycling tour that took him thousands of mile across the south of France.
Tommy – who is originally from Castleisland – is a long time supporter of Enable Ireland and over the last few years he has raised an astonishing €53,000 for the charity’s Kerry branch.
On his latest tour Tommy cycled from Lyon to Nice tackling the 2,000 metre high Mount Ventoux – dubbed by cyclists as the ‘Beast of Provence’ – twice over the course of his journey.
Last Thursday Tommy presented Sean Scally of Enable Ireland’s Kerry services with a cheque for €10,870.
This money was raised by Tommy on his recent summer tour of France and in various “Spinning” events which saw Tommy set an exercise bike in a public location and cycle for up to eight hours.
Last Thursday’s presentation was a poignant occasion as just a week before Tommy’s mother Kitty – a long standing and major supporter of Enable Ireland and the inspiration for Tommy’s fundraising efforts – passed away.
Sean Scally thanked Tommy for his incredible and seemingly non stop fundraising efforts and expressed Enable Ireland Kerry’s deepest sympathy to Tommy and his family on Kitty’s tragic passing.
