‘Patrick’ proves to be a shining success for our Kerry Stars

THE Kerry Stars Special Olympics team have benefited from the sensational musical drama ‘Patrick’, written by Kerry journalist, Aidan O’Connor.

Since its premiere in Rathmore in April, the play has been seen by over 4,000 people and with at least two more shows expected at the INEC before the year is out, that’s set to rise.

A donation was made to the Kerry Stars at The Malton Hotel on Monday evening and the entire story surrounding ‘Patrick’ has been one of community very much at heart.

“A donation was made to Kerry Stars as this is a charity very close to my own heart, as my son Oisin has been a member there for years,” Aidan said.

“A lot of the cast just felt a donation to the Kerry Stars was a great idea, especially given the year that’s in it and considering one of the key aims of the Proclamation was about cherishing the children of the nation equally.”

The play tells the story of Rathmore patriot, Patrick O’Connor, set during the climactic events of Easter 1916.

The group will also receive a civic reception in September and talks of inviting President Michael D Higgins to see the play are still very much in the pipeline.

“Obviously it’s not up to us to invite the President, but I’m due to talk with the Kerry Arts Office and Killarney Chamber Alliance soon. The show will definitely play at least once, if not twice, more before the year is out at the INEC,” Aidan added.
