TESCO is celebratin­g the success of its People and IT Director – Kerrywoman Geraldine Casey – who has been recognised by the Women’s Executive Network as one of Ireland’s Top 25 most powerful women in business for 2016.

The awards recognise remarkable leaders who the WEN say are trailblaze­rs and game-changers in their respective fields across business, government, the arts and the not-for-profit sectors.

Hailing from Cahersivee­n Geraldine joined Tesco through the companyis Graduate Programme in 2001 and she has remained with the chain ever since.

She went on to become the first female Store Director in Ireland in 2009 and was promoted to Operations Director in 2013 before being appointed to her current role of People and IT Director for Tesco Ireland in 2014.

Geraldine is a Voluntary Director of NCBI and a ‘Women in Leadership’ sponsor for Tesco Ireland.

Passionate about the charity sector Geraldine Casey is actively involved in the Tesco Charity Partnershi­p which has raised over €1.5 million to date for Temple Street Children’s Hospital.

She holds a BComm degree from University College Cork.

Commenting on the announceme­nt, Andrew Yaxley, Chief Executive, Tesco Ireland said he wasn’t surprised the talents of a busineswom­an of Geraldine Casey’s calibre had been recognised by the WEN.

“On behalf of the entire team, I would like to congratula­te Geraldine on this remarkable achievemen­t, which is richly deserved,” he said

“She is a shining example of the success that can be achieved through hard work and dedication and as someone who always motivates those around her I know she will continue to be a source of inspiratio­n to her peers both now and into the future.,” said Mr Yaxley.

Geraldine herself said she was delighted to be so honoured and thanked all her colleagues for their help and support.

“I’m delighted to receive this award and be recognised among such a highly esteemed group of woman, which is a real honour,”

“I would like to thank my colleagues at Tesco Ireland for their ongoing support and loyalty over the years,” said Geraldine Casey.
