New era at Ring Lyne Bar as Sheehan brothers take charge

-

THE Ring Lyne Bar and Restaurant of Chapeltown (Caol) dates it’s origins back to the mid-eighteen hundreds. It was originally owned by Jeremiah O’Sullivan of Valentia and his wife Alice (nee O’Connell, who was from Killalin, Over-The Water). Their son William then inherited the premises in 1925-26.

Due to the economic situation, the premises closed between the years 1937-47. It was then taken by William’s son, John William, who also ran a dance hall there in the early years. John William passed away on August 17, 2012 and was succeeded by his son Sean as the proprietor. Eileen Healy of Corobeg operated the premises on a five year lease basis, which ended on October 3, 2015.

The Bar and Restaurant closed as a result and Sean, in the process of taking a new direction in life, offered it for sale.

Shane O’Connor from Cooil then took it on a lease basis and, much to the joy of regular patrons, it re-opened for Christmas on December 18 last. His lease ended at the end of May.

On June 1 the premises came under the new management of the London born and reared Sheehan brothers Steve and Anthony in co-operation with Steve’s partner Aisling McCaffrey of Fermanagh. She ran Jonjo’s Bar in Ealing Common, London. Eddie (originally from Dromid) and Audrey Sheehan, who operate the Creamery Shop of Laharn South in the Renard area are the parents of the Sheehans. Valentia Islanders would like to extend sincere good wishes to the Sheehans as they embark on their new venture.
