Keane happy at first silverware as minor manager

- BY JASON O’CONNOR

OVERALL it was a satisfied assessment when Kerry Minor manager Peter Keane when he came upstairs in the Fitzgerald Stadium dressing rooms to offer his thoughts on the Kingdom’s fourth consecutive Munster Minor title.

“I was very happy with how we started and how we went about our business in the first-half in general. We had the breeze in the first period and although it died for a bit and we converted nine out of 15 scoring chances.

“Cork came back at us which we expected somewhat with the amount of pace they had. Their no.4 (Liam O’Donovan) ran up and down the pitch all day so they did present a challenge to us in that sense,” he said.

While he didn’t wish to give out too much individual plaudits, he admitted that David Clifford’s finish for Kerry’s third goal was quite special.

“Someone had to work hard in the build-up for him to get that chance but he did take it quite well when it came to him. I agree that the substitutions that we made worked well but it’s easy to say that after you win.

“Overall I’m happy that we were able to give six other players game time today on top of the 15 that we started with,” the Kerry minor boss said.

Although much will be expected of the side following the recent successes at Minor level for the Kingdom, Keane still feels that this is a separate entity to what has gone before them.

“This is a new team who have got to make their own bit of history this year regardless of what the others before them have done. We have things to work on ahead of the All-Ireland quarter-finals which is no bad way to be for any team at this time of year.”
