CURROW CURRANS

-

CURROW LADIES FOOTBALL CLUB: Last Weekend was a fantastic weekend for the Club and our U14 Footballers as we took part in the All Ireland Feile Competition and had the privlage of hosting a Team of fabulous Girls from Glencar Manorhamilton in County Leitrim. Following the first round games we faced Ballymaguigan from Derry in the Division 4 Shield Quarter Final in Scartaglen on Saturday evening. We played against a strong wind in the first half and trailed by 2 points 0-5 to 1-0 at half time with Gracie Daly scoring our Goal. The Derry girls made a great start to the second half and pointed after a minute, but were kept scoreless for the rest of the game by the tireless work of our backs, midfield and half forwards. Goals by Orla O’Sullivan and Ellen Dennehy saw us score a fabulous win on a score of 3-00 to 0-06. It was on to Mallow on Sunday morning and a Semi Final game against Drom/ Broadford from Limerick, who were much stronger physically than our Girls. We made the dream start with Orla O’Sullivan Goaling after 2 minutes, but playing against a strong wind we found it impossible to get the ball up the field against the Limerick girls and we trailed at half time 1-06 to 1-00. Drom/ Broadford made the dream start to the 2nd half with a goal in the first minute and they then led by 9 points. Many other teams would give up at this stage but not ours, and they went on to dominate the rest of the half against much stronger opposition and scored a goal by Orla O’Sullivan and a point by Cira Fitzgerald, with a number of other Goal opportunities going narrowly wide, and the result was in doubt until the final whistle with the clock eventually beating us as we tried valliantly for the scores which would win the game for us. The final score was 2-06 to 2-01 and so ended the Feile Weekend for our Fabulous Team who even though we had the smallest Panel in the Competition of only 16 players, played with distinction in the 15 a side Competition in Division 4 a Credit to the Girls. The Weekend wasn’t about Football only as our Girls made some new great friends and we were delighted that the Girls were hosting from Glencar Manorhamilton went on to Win the Division 4 Final, a fantastic achievement for them. The club would like to thank our Feile Committee who did such a great Job Organising the weekend and making it a memorable one for the Girls and also our Senior Players who helped Officiate at and Host the 8 Girls Teams who played their Quarter Finals in Currow on the Saturday Evening.
