DEATH

Patsy McCarthy, Ouvane, Mangerton, Kilgarvan, died suddenly at home on Saturday 25th June. Patsy’s Requiem Mass took place at 12 noon on Wednesday 29th June at St Patricks Church, Kilgarvan with burial afterwards in the local Cemetery. Patsy’s brother, Father Florrie, SDB was Chief Celebrant with several Priests Concelebra­ting Mass. He was predecease­d by his brother Danny, New York and Sister Fatima, Sister of Charity of the Incarnate Word, Texas. To Patsy’s brothers Johnny and Father Florrie, Crumlin, his sister, Peggy O’Sullivan, nieces and nephews we extend our deepest Sympathy.

TAILTEANN GAMES

Christina McCarthy and Rhona Randles were selected on the Munster team to represent the province at the Glohealth Tailteann School games on Saturday 25th June in Santry, Dublin. Christina placed a very credible 7th with a high jump of 1:60. This was equal to her best jump. Christine will be underage for this competitio­n again next year. Rhona Randles was unfortunat­e in that while in a good position she fell midway through her 1500m race and did not complete the event. This fall can be put down to a good learning experience. Rhona will be underage for this event for the next two years. KILGARVAN CENTRAL SCHOOL

As Kilgarvan Central School begin their Summer holidays eight pupils finished their Primary Education. Mia Gadsden, Micheal O’Donoghue, Dan Twomey, Corey Murphy, Eoin O’Shea, Daniel Lynch, Donnaha McVeigh and Tadgh O’Donoghue all go forward next September to Pobalscoil Inbhear Sceine, Kenmare. Sixteen new pupils start at Kilgarvan Central School in September - fourteen new Junior Infants, one in 1st class and one in 3rd class.

WEDDING

Kevin O’Connor eldest son of Valerie and Michael O’Connor, Ardtully, Kilgarvan and Caroline Healy daughter of Sheila and Donie Healy, Douglas, Cork were married on Friday July 1st 2016. The reception was held in Dunmore House Hotel, Clonakilty, Co. Cork. The couple will reside in Ardtully, Kilgarvan.

ROSSACRUE WOOD WALK

The Rossacrue Wood walk is scheduled for Tuesday 12th July. OS 79. The organiser is Eilis Mahony 087 237 8411. Meet at the square Kenmare at 7:00pm. Rules: Everyone walks at their own risk, Children Under 16 years must be accompanie­d by Parent or Guardian, Dogs not allowed. The remaining Tuesday evening walks as follows: 19th July Two Mile Bridge Circuit, 26th July Ardea Circuit, 2nd August Dromanassi­g/ Sheen Falls, 9th August Gortamulle­n Hill (Boots needed), 16th August Bonane Loop.

CEMETERY MASS

The annual cemetery mass will be held on Friday 8th July at 7.30pm (weather permitting). The collection taken up at the offertory at this mass is for future projects in the burial ground. The Annual Kilgarvan Church Gate Collection held later in the year helps with the day to day maintenanc­e of our burial grounds. Top of Coom Sheep Shearing: The annual Sheep Shearing Competitio­n takes place at the Top Of Coom Bar on Sunday 10th July starting at 11:00am sharp. It is also a family fun day with music throughout the afternoon.The competitio­ns include Under 21 machine, Open Hand- Junior, Intermedia­te, Senior and Open Machine, Local - 20 mile radius and Speed Competitio­n for Ladies.
