Consider the great outdoors for entertainment

-

ADMITTEDLY it’s more popular in countries where sunshine is a guarantee. But seeing as you’re lucky enough to get married in summer, chances are you’ll get a beautiful sunny day thrown in for good measure. While obviously our climate is not conducive to planning outdoor ceremonies, it is worth considering putting on some form of outdoor activity on the big day.

The reasons? Well, you mightn’t want guests cooped up all day indoors and while there are many who are more than happy to do so, by organising some outdoor activity you can help spread the unique atmosphere of a summer wedding. Ideas? For starters, why not think about hiring a band to lay on some soft jazzy tunes in the lawn or lobby area of the hotel as guests arrive? Many hotels already do this in their lobby areas, but if the weather is fine wouldn’t some outdoor music give a nicer atmosphere before the meal? Later that evening you could also arrange a children’s play area outside with a bouncy castle, a puppet show, face painting or clowns. The official part of the ceremony will have well and truly passed by then and parents won’t mind as much should the odd mud or grass stain suddenly appear on the knees of kiddies trousers.

This outdoor activity would also stop kids from getting bored which means mom and dad get to enjoy the day a little more as well. And if you’re feeling really ambitious, speculative and creative, then why not leave off a few Chinese lanterns or fireworks later that night? Although it’s wise to check with the hotel prior to doing this as there are clear safety restrictions and procedures to assess first. Summer is a wonderful time for a wedding, so make the most of it and think outside the box. It will help create a few extra memories to cherish.
