A proud village with sport, heritage and business at its core

-

ANYONE who ever thought Ardfert’s proximity to a larger population base and business town like Tralee would diminish the dynamic and character of the village should think again. For centuries this ancient locale is well accustomed to meeting changes head one, while preserving the one thing most vital - a sense of place. The village of Ardfert has a wide range of services that caters for all those dayto-day requirements: beauticians, hairdressers, grocers, butchers, printing, dining, pubs, chemist, off-license, solicitors, childcare services, and much more besides. We caught up with local businessman, Brendan Horgan, for a quick muse over Ardfert.

“Businesses in the village have had some tough times in the past but there’s been a pick up again. People are spending local again and if shops and services are provided for people, locally, they tend to stay local. However, the one thing about businesses here in Ardfert is that we appreciate locals and their custom, and we like to think we know our customers personally.”

Brendan continues: “You only have to look at the great work done by our Tidy Towns and Community Council. It’s been a big year for the village with the President’s visit and all the eyes of the country were on us and the reason the village looked so well was down to local people pulling together. All of a sudden people want to come and visit the village and Banna Strand and there’s nowhere nicer. Ardfert is also on the Wild Atlantic Way route which is another positive and of course we love our sport here in Ardfert with our football and hurlers having enjoyed great success. This all helps to give a lift to the community as well.”
