Global Rhythms Fest goes off with a bang

-

INCLEMENT weather failed to soften the beat of this year’s Cuisle Chorca Dhuibhne, Dingle Global Rhythm festival which took place over the weekend.

Large numbers turned out for the three day event and, as the name would suggest, performers from all around the world kept the audiences entertained for the duration.

Delighted with the event, organisers acknowledged the contribution of the volunteers and all who made the weekend such a success

“A huge thank you to all our helpers, performers, workshop facilitators, sponsors, supporters and festival visitors for making this year’s Cuisle Chorca Dhuibhne another successful Festival. CCD is about sharing the joy and appreciation for world music, culture, percussion, friendship and is a celebration of live.” A spokesperson said.

The festival’s reputation as a family event was further enhanced this year with plenty on offer for all ages. Sunday’s Afro-Caribbean themed afternoon was the main outing for families and over the course of the afternoon, performances from a range of groups including a drum and vocal band whose members hailed from Africa and an enthralling display by Avatar, a European reggae/ jazz group provided great entertainment.

The weekend was brought to a close by local group Splanc – The Dingle Carnival Band – whose “sunny upbeat rhythms and sounds” nicely rounded off a very successful festival that definitely went off with a bang.
