CALLINAFERCY REGATTA

The Callinafercy regatta was held in Ballykissane pier on Sunday last. Proceedings got under way when J.P. O’Sullivan who welcomed everybody and told us about the wreath laying ceremony which was going to take place before the racing started. Sean Keating nephew of Con Keating then spoke briefly about the men that lost their lives at Ballykissane pier 100 years ago.

A poignant lament was then played by Jerry Baynam before Donal Keating and his sister Noreen Toomey nephew and niece of Con Keating also, laid a wreath to remember these men. A lovely rendition of the national anthem was then played by Gerry Baynam and two other members of the Killorglin pipe band. Well done to all who were involved in the organising of this event.

The following are the results of the regatta: u-18 boys 1-Cromane 2-Killorglin 3-Sive; u-18 girls 1-Valentia 2-Sive 3-Sneem ; Seineboat 1-Cahersiveen 2-Valentia 3-Cnuiceen 4-Callinafercy; Senior men 1 Callinafercy 2 Valentia 3 Portmagee; u14 mixed 1 Sive, 2 Valentia Cromane 3 Valentia; u16 girls 1 Sive, 2 Templenoe; 3, Valentia; u14 girls 1 Portmagee 2 Callinafercy 3 Cromane; u16 boys 1 Valentia 2 Ballinskelligs 3 Cromane; Senior Ladies 1 Sneem 2 Valentia 3 Fenit
