Lip sync battle in aid of Lyme Disease sufferer set for Killarney

- By AMY REIDY

KILLARNEY’S first ever lip sync battle will take to the INEC stage next month in another bid to raise vital funds for chronic Lyme disease sufferer Anthony Morris.

Thursday, August 25 will see 10 acts battle on stage as Anthony, who has recently began his third month of a nine month treatment protocol, continues to fight his own battle in the US.

The fun event is the perfect excuse for one final summer blow out before the children go back to school and guarantees to be a highly energetic night as the community comes together once more in support of Anthony.

“The doctor’s big concern has been an obvious deterioration in his cognitive function and mental sharpness. He has been really struggling to communicate, getting confused and lost for words. This is a result of the Lyme infection affecting his brain and fighting back against the antibiotics,” said Anthony’s brother Jim.

Anthony’s pain levels and headaches are also said to have increased since he began his treatment earlier this year but this is attributed to a Herxheimer reaction as the bacteria starts to dies off.

The father-of-one receives IV treatment three times a week where he generally stays in bed and tries to sleep through the nausea and pain, according to Jim.

Tickets for the Lip Sync Battle can be purchased at Whos 4 Shoes, Charlie Foley’s, the INEC Box Office, the Gleneagle Hotel and K-Town Bar all located in Killarney.

Ticket prices range from €10 for children and €15 for adults with doors opening at 7.30pm and the show beginning at 8pm. Further updates on Anthony’s story can be found on the dedicated Facebook page, ‘Help Anthony Morris Fight Lyme Disease’.
