Juniors storm into yet another decider

-

KERRY Junior footballers booked their place in the All-Ireland Junior championship final with what was an emphatic victory in the end against Lancashire on Saturday last.

The home side gave as good as they got in the first half with Asdee native Darren Russell bagging a goal but at the break Kerry had fought back to level proceedings, 0-9 to 1-6. The Kerry management team wrung the changes at the break introducing three fresh bodies and a four goal salvo from Kevin O’Sullivan, Kieran Hurley, Niall O’Shea and Robert Wharton ensured that Kerry reached a third consecutive final on a 4-17 to 3-10 scoreline.

Mayo defeated last year’s semi finalists, Wexford by 2-10 to 0-10 in that other semi-final so this year’s final on August 6 is a repeat of last year’s final between Kerry and Mayo. No venue has been decided as yet, but should Mayo win their All Ireland qualifier against Westmeath then the game could be in Croke Park as part of a treble header with the two remaining quarter-final ties similar to last year.

THE second semi final of the Acorn Life Under-21 Championship will be played tonight (Wednesday) when St Kierans and South Kerry meet in Killorglin at 7pm with extra-time in the event of a draw. This promises to be a cracker with two very good teams involved. The winners will play Dingle who defeated Dr Crokes in the first semi-final and that final will now take place in Austin Stack Park on Tuesday August 9.
