THREE INJURED IN TRALEE CRASH
CAR COLLIDED WITH EBS BRANCH ON SUNDAY MORNING
THREE people have been hospitalised following an accident in Tralee on Sunday in which a car crashed into an EBS building society branch.
At around 8am a car being driven south down Rock Street went out of control and hit the EBS branch at the junction with Bridge Street. The car continued a short distance along Bridge Street before coming to a halt outside Shaws Department Store.
Though the car itself appeared not to have sustained major damage in the crash a number of its occupants were injured. It is thought the injuries were caused by various loose materials which the impact of the collision sent flying around the interior of the vehicle.
Gardaí, the fire service and ambulance attended the scene. In order to remove the injured passengers from the vehicle the roof of the car had to be cut from the vehicle.
Three people – who it is understood suffered serious lacerations in the crash – were removed to University Hospital Kerry for treatment where they remained as The Kerryman went to press on Tuesday.
It is the second time in just four months that a car has crashed into the EBS building. On March 2 a car drove straight into the branch’s facade while a number of staff and customers were in the premises.
In that case the driver left the scene and was arrested later by Gardaí who identified him from a licence plate found at the crash site.
