County SFL continues as important back games come into play

-

THERE are quite a number of back games down for decision over the coming weeks in the Credit Union Senior Football League. In peak holiday season, some clubs will find it difficult to field at a time of the year that traditionally had very little club activity.

Austin Stacks and Kerins O’Rahillys meet in Connolly Park in a Division 1 game where the winner will be right in line to challenge for the second League final spot.

Last weekend in Division 2, Emmets eased their relegation fears when they had a good 1-13 to 1-9 victory over Listry in a Round 8 refixture. That victory moves the Listowel side onto 6 points – a point better off than the four clubs below them in the table which includes Listry. Both sides are in action this weekend when Emmets entertain Laune Rangers and Listry travel to An Ghaeltacht.

In Division 3 last weekend, Annascaul and St Pats did their promotion hopes no harm at all when defeating Dromid Pearses, 1-10 to 0-12, and Gneeveguilla, 1-10 to 1-7, respectively. The winners join Ardfert, who have a game in hand, on 11 points – a point adrift of leaders Currow who also have a game in hand. This weekend Gneeveguilla travel to Beale where the home side will have to pick up points to avoid joining already Tarbert in Division 4 next season.

In Division 4 Lispole received a walk over from Valentia and in Division 5, Rathmore had a 1-18 to 2-7 victory Ballylongford and move into a challenging position for promotion on 12 points with Duagh and Cordal a point behind leaders Castlegregory. This weekend there is a four-pointer in Chapeltown where Valentia meet neighbours Renard in a local relegation derby.

Round 10 of the League goes ahead on the weekend of August 14th while the final round of the League is pencilled in for September 25 but, should Kerry exit the All-Ireland Championship at the semi-final stage, then Round 11 will be played on the weekend of September 4 as per fixtures calendar.

JUNIOR FOOTBALL LEAGUES

IT is hoped to pick up the back games in the Junior Leagues in the next couple of weeks. A reminder that in all groups, the top team on points qualifies for the final, while 2nd and 3rd placed teams play a semi final with 2nd placed team having home venue.

JUNIOR FOOTBALL CUPS

IT’S proposed to commence the Junior Cup football competitions on Friday, August 19 and it will run on a knock out basis during August. Fixtures will be scheduled mainly for Friday evenings but other available dates shall be used also. Strict criteria for player eligibility has been forwarded to all clubs.
