Draw no good as final eludes Keel and Glenbeigh

SENIOR LEAGUE, FINAL ROUND Glenbeigh/Glencar 1-12 Keel 0-15

KEEL played Glenbeigh/Glencar in the final round of the Mid Kerry League in what was essentiall­y a semi-final that would have seen either team through to the final if they won. A draw that would be of benefit to neither team.

Both teams were missing a number of regulars and traded points from Barth Murphy and Podge Griffin before Jack Brosnan ran the length of the field and score a goal from a rebound after a fine save from Luke Flynn. A Jason McKenna free left Glenbeigh Glencar ahead by 1-2 to 0-1 after 10 minutes.

Keel responded with two points from Gary Sayers and a point each from Dylan Prendergas­t and David McAssey to level the game at 0-5 to 1-2. Both teams were evenly matched and went in at half time level after Gary Sayers scored two points and one for Aaron Murphy for the home side were met with two Jason McKenna points and one from Colin McGillycud­dy. The half time score was Keel 0-8 Glenbeigh/Glencar 1-5.

Two Jason McKenna frees and a point each from Sayers and Terry O’Sullivan kept the game level at 0-10 to 1-7 before Keel establishe­d a three point lead through two Aaron Murphy points and one form Sayers. Pa Kilkenny was becoming more influentia­l and soon the game was level at 0-13 to1-10 with points from Jack Brosnan and McKenna. As the clock ticked down points from Jerry Hoare and Leon Seidler looked like they would put Glenbeigh Glencar in the Mid Kerry League Final until Sayers scored a last minute free to level the match again.

Miltown/Castlemain­e 2-15 Laune Rangers 0-7

OLD rivals squared up in the final round of the Mid Kerry Senior League. The game started with a quick point from Cathal Moriarty which was followed by 2 points from Laune Rangers, with their goalie pulling off a great save from Gavin Horan. Rangers took over the game securing three unanswered points.

The home side got in the game with raising the white flag seven further times. Laune Rangers did manage one more point from a free. The half time score Miltown/Castlemain­e 0-8 Laune Rangers 0-4.

Miltown/Castlemain­e continued the second half as they did the last half outscoring Rangers 0-3 to 0-1. The visitors had an up hill battle from this stage on and Ciaran Griffin put a final nail in their coffin with a lovely goal, Laune Rangers answered with two points. The high light of the night came when the evergreen Mike Burke chipped the Rangers Keeper to score a wonderful goal.
