Waterville robbery accused are remanded in continuing custody
THE solicitor representing two men accused of robbing Waterville Post Office a fortnight ago has told the court her clients deny and will vigorously contest all the charges against them.
Brian O’Sullivan (32) of Coolies, Muckross, Killarney and Marcus O’Rourke (36) of Rathanane, Kilcummin appeared before Tralee District Court last Thursday.
The pair are each charged with four offences arising from the robbery at Waterville Post Office on the morning of Wednesday August 3.
The four charges are the robbery of approximately €5,000 in cash from post mistress Lisa O’Reilly Foran; possession of a firearm or imitation firearm with intent to commit an offence; ramming a garda car and causing damage to garda property, namely the garda car. Both men deny all charges.
Solicitor Nuala Liston – who is representing both men – applied for bail for both her clients but this was refused following submissions from gardaí.
During the bail application Nuala Liston said Brian O’Sullivan “vehemently” denied the charges and that Marcus O’Rourke would be “vigorously contesting the matters before the court.”
Judge John King – who cited the seriousness of the charges – refused the bail applications and remanded Mr O’Sullivan and Mr O’Rourke in continuing custody to appear before the court again on August 25.
