Enormous interest in Denny site
COUNCIL RECEIVES OVER 200 PUBLIC SUBMISSIONS ON TRALEE DENNY SITE
THERE has been a massive response to Kerry County Council’s call for submissions on the future of the Denny factory site in Tralee.
The former Denny plant was gifted to the people of Tralee by Kerry Group two years ago and the council are seeking the public’s help as they plan the development of the 2.3 acre site.
A public consultation programme was launched three weeks ago and already Kerry County Council has received over 200 submissions from the public on how the site should be used.
Kerry County Council has an on-site mobile unit at the entrance to the former factory which is open daily and anyone with an idea for the site is welcome to drop in to meet with council staff and submit their proposals.
“We have had a very strong response from the public already. People are talking about this exciting project and engaging with the consultation process,’ said KCC Director of Services Michael Scannell.
“Members of the public have been calling into the mobile unit on site where forms can be filled up and people can view a gallery of images of the factory as it looks today,” Mr Scannell said.
“There have been some very interesting and well-conceived ideas with a wide range of proposals coming forward which augurs well for the future of the Denny site and vindicates the Council’s decision to consult widely before finalising a plan for the location,” Michael Scannell said.
The consultation period will run for another three weeks and all of the ideas and proposals received will feed into a development brief for a master-plan for the site which it is hoped will see a major rejuvenation of this part of Tralee town centre.
