Tralee Darkness into Light was a phenomenal fundraising success

THE first ever Darkness Into Light walk to be held here in Tralee can now officially be declared a huge success for the organisers and charity officials alike after members of Pieta House were this past week presented with a cheque for the huge amount of €45,226.

A hugely popular national and annual fundraising event that sees thousands and thousands of people take to the streets around the country in the early hours of morning, the inaugural year of Darkness into Light walk here in Tralee on May 7 drew a huge crowd of 3,500 people.

Delighted and grateful members of the Pieta House centre here in Tralee were presented with the cheque outside of their premises on Monday evening with the organisers of the walk especially delighted with the amount that was raised.

“I just want to sincerely thank everyone who came out on that night long ago and who supported Darkness into Light; the response was absolutely massive with the 3500 people showing up,” said Colin Aherne, one of the main organisers and social media drivers behind the event.

“This money will go a long way towards helping the fantastic work being here in Pieta House in Tralee and it will a fantastic aid towards helping people who are struggling with their own mental health issues,” he continued.
