O’Dorney chairman disappointed as Ballyduff plan ahead

- BY TIMMY SHEEHAN

ABBEYDORNEY chairman James Fealy was clearly disappointed with the result and the performance, but loud in his praise for the efforts made by all concerned throughout all of the season.

“We are disappointed. I suppose, it didn’t happen for us on the day. We tried a lot of things, and, just a few of the small things, if they had gone our way earlier on in the game, maybe the result might have been different, but, look Ballyduff are a serious outfit, and we wish them all the best in the County final.

“We definitely could have got two goals in that game, and, that would have kept us in it and made a better match of it, but, look, that’s how it goes. We didn’t get up to the heights which we got up to against Kilmoyley, but hopefully we can get back there again.

“We are fierce proud of all of the boys, they have put in a massive effort all year, Ian Maunsell as Manager, everybody is really disappointed with this. We expected a bit more, hopefully we will keep the lads together, and the management together for another year.

“They’re a great bunch of young lads, hopefully, they will all be there again next year, to bring the team on again, something to look forward to.”

Not many expected a result such as this, including Ballyduff selector Anthony O’Carroll, and, he was understandably quite pleased with many different aspects of his team’s performance.

“Well, it was really [easier than expected], we were very worried coming into the game. We knew they had a few big hitters, but, we were always confident of our game plan, because, if it worked, it was going to work very well, and, it did.

“Today, our big players played, and, the fellows that wouldn’t be so called big players, they came up to the mark as well, and, we just pushed it on. They did very well, the day suited them really.

“It was a lovely dry day, a great day for hurling, no wind, played very well, took some great scores, their movement was good as well around the field, and, a lot of good scores came from that as well.

“We were worried about the defence, but, they showed today that they are one of the strongest links in the team. Our half back line, very good, they covered the full back line as well, and, putting Paud Costello back was a big asset to us this year, getting him fit.

“Our midfielders are playing very well, they’re covering as well, doing a lot of running. Fitness is telling, and, hopefully in the next four or five weeks we will be better again.

“We didn’t have a lot of wides, 1-20 is good scoring any day, but, if we could get Aidan (Boyle) fit, and Padraig (Boyle) back to ninety per cent, he was only eighty per cent today, he still isn’t right, but he is a Boyle so he will plug away.

“He scored eight points today, I think, and Jack Goulding was on fire as well, scored seven, so we got a good mix of scoring today as well.”
