Mid Kerry junior league crown for Beaufort after final battle

MID KERRY JUNIOR LEAGUE FINAL

Beaufort 1-13 Miltown / Castlemain­e 0-9 CROMANE hosted the Junior League Final this evening, spectators were afforded a great game of football.

Miltown / Castlemain­e was first out of the blocks with a Jonathan O’Sullivan free, before Beaufort responded with points from Cian O’Sullivan and Kevin O’Brien. Miltown / Castlemain­e cancelled out these two points to take the lead after nine minutes, but this was to be their last score until the 27th minute when Jerome Flynn and Kieran McKenna twice raised the white flag.

Beaufort were always that bit on top and secured four unanswered points from Ronan Ferris, Kevin O’Brien, Micheal O’Sullivan and Shane O’Sullivan.

Miltown / Castlemain­e tried to raise the green flag only to be denied and had to be content with their fourth point of the game from a Jonathan O’Sullivan free to leave then two points down at the break, Beaufort 0-6 Miltown / Castlemain­e 0-4.

A minute into the second half Beaufort started as they finished the first half with a lovely point from Kevin O’Brien, to put one between the sides.

Miltown / Castlemain­e rose the white flag twice more (through Craig Counihan and Donal Dennehy).

All the action was in the Miltown / Castlemain­e back line when Beaufort had a goal chance on three attempts, but thanks to the Miltown / Castlemain­e goalie and backs it never materialis­ed and had to be content with a Kevin O’Brien free.

With Beaufort still on top by two Miltown / Castlemain­e freshened up their squad replacing Jerome Flynn with Jamie O’Shea. Miltown / Castlemain­e made every effort to stay in the game scoring their last two points to level matters (Jonathan O’Sullivan a free and Donal Dennehy from play). Beaufort also used their bench with Jeremiah O’Sullivan replacing Michael Fogarty.

With 46 minutes gone Beaufort were not going to lose this game and added three points from Kevin O’Brien to put them three ahead. Miltown / Castlemain­e used their double subs John McAuliffe for Craig Counihan and Ronan Casey for Thady O’Sullivan.

Beaufort took over to finish their opponents off securing tow points (through Ronan Ferris and Kevin O’Brien). Beaufort decided to give more players a run as they had the game in hand Edwin Kelliher made way for Gary Tangney) and Joseph Glinwood replaced Micheal O’Sullivan.

To finish the game with great class and to secure a great win Beaufort’s Niall O’Connor shot hit the back of Kevin Tangney’s net.

Beaufort’s captain Conor Breen was presented with the Junior League Shield while his team mate Ronan Ferris was presented with the Man of the Match award.
