Sneem/Derrynane 1-16 Cordal 0-11

Played in Sneem in front of a large crowd where early scores were coming very fast as the home team were up four points to three after seven mins. Ian Galvin (2) and Ronan Hussey (2) with Phillip O’Connor accounting for two of Cordal’s points. Three unanswered points from Ronan Hussey, Two from frees made it 0-7 to 0-4 on 13 mins. Ian Galvin added another point for Sneem/Derrynane but Cordal replied with two of their own to make it a two point game. Hussey again and a Brendan Teehan free had the home team ahead by 0-10 to 0-6, before two late Cordal points left the half time score 0-10 to 0-8 to Sneem/ Derrynane. Cordal were first to strike with a Phillip O’Connor free. But the home team responded in style with tormenter in chief Ian Galvin hitting a purple patch by scoring 1-2 inside a three minute spell. At this juncture Cordal’s cause was not helped, as they lost a player to a red card.

The home team kicked on and went clear with Teehan and Hussey adding further points to make it 1-15 to 0-9 on the 20th minute.

Ian Galvin got Sneem/Derrynane’s final point before Cordal with two consolatio­n points closed the scoring at 1-16 to 0-11.

This win will bring Sneem Derrynane right back in contention for promotion as they have two games in hand to play.

They play Knocknagos­hel in Derrynane this Saturday Evening.
