GAA LOTTO DRAW

Scartaglin GAA Club’s next lottery will be on Sunday evening next August 21 in O’Connors Bar when the jackpot will be €6,000, that’s a nice prize so make sure that your tickets are in the draw.

ROAD WORKS

Work was recently carried out in repairing the embankment at the bad bend below Scartaglin Village on the road to Castleisla­nd. Much of the work involved consisted of placing huge boulders in place for a foundation.

AFTERNOON OF PRAYER

The next Afternoon of Prayer in Our Lady of Lourdes Church Scartaglin will be on this Sunday, August 21, when John Delaney will be present. The Rosary as always will get the prayer afternoon under way at 2.30 p.m. and everyone is welcome.

PHOTOGRAPH­IC EXHIBITION

Killarney Library will host the ‘Press Photograph­er of the Year 2016’ Exhibition from Monday, August 8, to Thursday, August 25. This is an exhibition well worth seeing and is a collection of winning and short listed images from the annual Press Photograph­ers Associatio­n of Ireland Awards. Admission is free and all are welcome.

DISABLED DRIVERS ASSOCIATIO­N

The church gate collection this weekend will be in aid of the Disabled Drivers Associatio­n. Volunteers are need for this collection. Anyone interested in helping out, should contact Delia at 086 8337658.

WET JULY

Kerry had the highest number of wet days in the country in July – 22 in all. Met Éireann’s monthly figures showed that Valentia Observator­y recorded that fact compared to Carlow which recorded just eight days. In terms of sunshine, Kerry again had the highest number of dull days with 12 recorded.

WEDDING BELLS

Congratula­tions and best wishes are extended to Juliette O’Connor daughter of Eileen and the late Con O’Connor of Coolnagera­gh and Brendan Holohan son of Tom and Breda of Shronaboy Glenflesk who were married recently in Our Lady of Lourdes Church Scartaglen. The celebrant of the nuptial mass was Fr Anthony O’Sullivan. Juliette and Brendan held their reception in the Malton Hotel Killarney and they will reside in Glenflesk. Another recent marriage was that of Shane O’Donoghue, son of Bride and John O’Donoghue of Knockrour West and Erin Pinkney of Australia who were married in New Zealand.

COUNTY LEAGUE

Scartaglen will play Firies in the County League this weekend.
