CHEQUE PRESENTED

-

THE friends of Anthony Morris had one goal on their mind when the debilitating effects of Lyme’s Disease gripped the Killarney man – to help raise the much needed funds for his medical treatments in the Jemsek Clinic, Washington - Amy Reidy writes.

The group have come along way since their first fundraiser in March and have reached a total of €40,000 with the help of the most recent event held in Valentia.

Last Friday evening saw a cheque (left) for €7,180 being presented to members of Anthony’s family by John Shanahan, Pat O’Connor, Tony Curran, Liam and Seamus Lynch who organised a charity cycle from Valentia to Spa in June.

Adding to the excitement, Kerry legend Mick O’Connell and Danny Tim O’Sullivan led the successful event which aptly finished in the former Kerry star’s local club grounds.

“Anthony had the distinct pleasure of being the last man to mark Mick O’Connell in a competitive match so it was really special,” said Anthony’s brother Jim.

However, the group has a long way to go with €80,000 still left to be raised for the chronically ill father-of-one for whom concerns are rising as a result of his deteriorating cognitive function.

Friends of Anthony Morris have organised the next fundraiser, a Killarney Sing Off – like Lip Sync Battle on TV – to take place in the INEC on Thursday, August 25.
