The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
Joe’s on the airwaves
JOE McGill, the relatively new voice coming distinctively and clearly across the airwaves of Radio Kerry, comes from Ardcost, across the waters from Valentia Island, and is the son of Ger and Mary Ann(nee Lyne) McGill.Mary Ann is originally of Cooil,Valentia Island and Joe’s grandparents were the late Con and Katie Lyne of Cooil.
Joe, having attended the National School of Aghatubrid and the Coláiste Na Sceilge Secondary School of Cahirsiveen, went on to the Cork Institute of Technology to study Marketing and subsequently pursued his Masters Degree in Business Management and Entrepreneurship at UL. He then went to Dublin to take employment with the HSBC Banking and Financial Services Company. Joe, together with his brothers Colm, Liam, Nealie and Gearóid, then decided to take time out to travel the world. On his return, he again worked in Dublin, this time with IFSC.
He went on to complete a Bill Keating course in broadcasting which led him to work as a volunteer with the West Limerick 102 Radio Station. He soon took up employment with this Radio Station and developed from here to form his own company, Keeshla Communications, in partnership with Connie Broderick.
Having completed a series of documentaries with West Limerick 102, he subsequently took a managerial role with the station. This finally brought him to Radio Kerry, where he is a regular news reader and works on a series of documentaries. Interestingly,he will soon do a documentary on Seine boat racing in South Kerry.
