ST JOHN’S FUNDRAISING CONCERT IN BALLYBUNION
A FUND RAISING concert in aid of the St Johns Restoration Fund will take place at St John’s Church Ballybunion on Wednesday next, August 24, commencing at 8pm.
Among the artists who will perform on the night are Michael Nash (Tenor), Anna-Mai Wall (Soprano), Mark Hennessy (Boy Soprano), Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann, St. John’s parish Choir and Danny Houlihan (Ppper).
Noel Nash will be Master of Ceremonies and the singers will be accompanied by Mark Mulvihill, Chris Kiely and musical director is Denise Wren.
The suggested event donation is €15.
LOTS TO DO IN LISTOWEL FOR HERITAGE WEEK ‘16
TO mark the centenary of the 1916 Rising, Dr Mary McAuliffe, one of Ireland’s leading academics, will give a lecture at Listowel’s Seanchaí cenre on the role played by women in the 1916 Rising on Tuesday next, August 23 at 7.30pm.
This will be followed on Thursday, August 25, at 7.30pm by a second lecture when local historian Liam Irwin will give a talk on the rebel leader Con Colbert and his role in the 1916 Rising. Admission is free and all are welcome Meanwhile, throughout Heritage Week -0 August 19-28 - , there will be free admission and guided tours at the medieval castle in Listowel which was built over six hundred years ago by the Fitzmaurice family.
INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS WOMEN’S CONFERENCE
A TOTAL of 29 expert speakers are set to take to the podium at the second annual Enterprise Ireland International Business Women’s Conference, which is in conjunction with the Rose of Tralee International Festival next Monday, August 22 at the Brandon Hotel, Tralee.
Inspirational female figures such as Eleanor McEvoy and Norah Casey from Dragons’ Den, Dr Aoibhinn Ní Shúilleabháin CEO of the Irish Internet Association, Joan Mulvhill and many more will share their experiences and insights on themes such as leadership, growing a global business and entrepreneurship.

TARBERT MAN PREPARES TO LAUNCH NEW BOOK
MICHAEL Christopher Keane, Tarbert and Cork has will launch his new book, ‘From Laois to Kerry’, this Saturday, August 20, at 7pm in the Community Centre. DR Declan Downey will launch the book which gives a detailed account of the transplantation of the Moores, Kellys, Dowlings, Lawlors, Dorans, Dees and McEvoys to Tarbert and North Kerry in 1607 and the continuing presence of those surnames in North Kerry and West Limerick to the present day.
Everybody is welcome and there will be a contribution to the Ahern and Carmody Children’s Fund from books sold on the night.
TRALEE TO TURN ROSEY FOR FESTIVAL OF KERRY
IT’S that time of year again when the Rose of Tralee hits town - and this year the annual Festival is even bigger and better!
While continuing to feature all your favourite events such as the Rose ball, fashion show, kids entertainment, stalls, live music and so much more, this year’s festival will be extended by two days, to seven, and will feature an initial 65 Roses who will battle it out for the final 32 places for the televised event.
The Festival officially kicks off on Wednesday, August 17, and as usual organisers have ensured a superb line up of events which are outlined in detail in The Kerryman’s bumper 28-page Rose of Tralee supplement free with this week’s edition.
GAVIN & DE DANANN ALL SET FOR LISTOWEL GIG
THE renowned Irish band Frankie Gavin and De Danann will play an intimate concert at St John’s Theatre in Listowel this Friday night, August 19 in a concert not to be missed.
Frankie is most famous for playing with The Rolling Stones, Stephane Grappelli and has performed for American Presidents and the Prince of Monaco down through the years.
He is also renowned as the fastest fiddle player in the world.

KILLARNEY SET TO SHINE AS RACING COMES TO A CLOSE
CATCH the final meeting this year at Ireland’s most scenic racecourse in Killarney from August 17to20.
The festival will feature 29 races over four days and with an impressive prize fund of over €400,000, it’s sure to attract runners from Ireland and UK’s top stables.
On Saturday, August 20, the race meeting will once again be enhanced by Ladies Day which will be judged by Pippa O’Connor.

FESTIVAL RACING AND FAMILY FUN IN GLENBEIGH
THE tradition of horse-racing on Rossbeigh Strand dates back to the age of the legendary Fionn MacCumhail.
This year’s extravaganza on the strand is once again shaping up to be another magical event and if you’ve never been there, be sure to pencil the weekend of August 19, 20 and 21 in your diary.
The weekend will see a donkey derby as well as a mini Croke Park with live GAA matches to keep crowds entertained in between races.
CYCLE AGAINST SUICIDE TO ROLL INTO TRALEE
ON Saturday, August 20, the community of Tralee and the surrounding areas will host a Cycle Against Suicide Spin Off cycle.
The event will lead the Rose of Tralee International Festival parade and will encourage the notion that ‘it’s OK not to be OK; and it’s absolutely OK to ask for help’.
The cycle will begin at 12.30pm on Saturday at Aspen Grove Building and participants can register online. It is the first time that a spin off event has been held in Kerry.
SINGING & DANCING WITH HUMPTY DUMPTY AT INEC
FOR the first time ever, the classic nursery rhyme Humpty Dumpty is brought to the stage in a wonderful live interactive all singing and dancing production - Humpty’s Big EggVenture.
