ITT numbers jump up by six per cent on last year
The Institute of Technology Tralee will register over 1,500 new learners this September, an increase of six per cent on this time last year.
The college reported a modest recovery in applications for Civil and Environmental Engineering courses reflecting the turnaround in activity in this sector nationally.
Applications for computing related courses also increased as did applications for business related programmes which an ITT spokesperson said had increased significantly, again in line with national trends.
ITT’s Vice-President of Academic Affairs and Registrar Dr Brendan O’Donnell stated that the college has also seen a significant increase in applications in the areas of Agricultural Engineering and Agricultural Science.
“Nationally there has been a 26 per cent decrease in applications for agriculture or horticulture-based programmes, however applications to IT Tralee for degrees in agricultural engineering and agricultural science have increased by 22 per cent,” said Dr O’Donnell.
“In light of the significant increase in our applications we have increased our intakes on these programmes,” he said.
Over 500 international students will enrol at ITT for the next academic year.
September will see the ITT enrol its first cohort of students from Korea and Hong Kong who will join students from Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Germany, France, Canada, Malaysia and China.
