Ladies’ football gets a Lidl helping hand
AS part of their three-year national sponsorship of ladies football, Lidl presented a cheque for €1,000 to Corca Dhuibhne Ladies Football Club last week.
Speaking with the Kerryman Chairperson of the club Seosaimhín Ní Fhaolain, expressed how this will impact the club.
“It means everything to the club,” she said. “Because of our geographic position we always have to travel for games, we are deeply grateful to both the trainers and the parents of the girls who provide their time and transport voluntarily and for the local sponsorship of training gear and playing jerseys, as well as Lispole and An Gaeltacht Clubs for use of facilities... This will allow us to provide extra facilities.”
The Corca Dhuibhne club has over 100 members with ages ranging from under six years to senior. This year alone the club has contributed to the Kerry county teams with the following members representing their county: Éilis Kavanagh, Niamh Ní Chonchúir, Céití Ní Lúing and Ally Ní Mhathúna were all members of the All-Ireland winning u-16 team. Louise Ní Mhuircheartaigh is a key member of the inside forward line for the Kerry senior ladies team. Also Ciara Murphy, who recently transferred to a Dublin club because of work commitments, was the recipient of The Croke Park Player of the Month award for March, for her role as a captain of the O’Connor Cup winning UCD team.
