CE positions and public submissions invited for Town Park and Fr Casey’s

THE amalgamation of Fr Casey’s, Templeglantine and the Town Park has resulted in a strong and vibrant CE scheme in Abbeyfeale consisting of 34 members and there are more vacancies now available. The new CE positions are at Fr Casey’s GAA Grounds and Abbeyfeale Town Park and they include: Groundskeepers, Gardeners, Caretakers, Forestry and a Research Assistant.

“We have vacancies on both schemes at the moment and we’re hoping people will come forward for the positions,” said Gerardine O’Brien, Secretary of Abbeyfeale Community Leisure Ltd.

The town park is a much treasured amenity in Abbeyfeale and it’s all thanks to the vison of the late Dan Murphy who back in 1992 wanted to make Abbeyfeale a more attractive area for people to work and live. Many years later, Dan’s vision continues to grow as the town park is very much a work in progress and is testament to the community’s endeavour to have a first class amenity area.

The park incorporates roughly 30 acres and is a major biodiversity hub with approximately 6,000 trees, shrubs and flowers planted there. It also has between 1 and 2 kilometres of wheelchair friendly pathways. In 1999 two playgrounds opened in the park and from 2007 onwards the park has received major support from Limerick County Council towards revamping the playgrounds. Last year the Town Park opened new Public Toilets and it continues to be a place where ideas for further improvements are encouraged, as Gerardine explains.

“We’re now inviting submissions from the public for a new 5 or 10 year plan as to what direction they would like to see the Town Park going in the future. We would like it to have a three-dimensional aspect such as a leisure, educational and biodiversity amenity. It’s an ambitious project and when combined with the CE positions currently available, it’s an exciting one for people to be involved in.”
