Declan O’Sullivan to host Legends Tour at Croke Park

-

KERRY great Declan O’Sullivan will host a Bord Gáis Energy Legends Tour of Croke Park on Saturday, August 27 at 2pm on the eve of his county’s All-Ireland semi-final clash with Dublin. Declan will look back on his career in the green and gold which spanned over a decade and he’ll also look ahead to the big game the following day. The Droimid Pearses clubman won five All-Ireland senior titles in his playing days with Kerry. The first of those came in 2004 when Mayo were defeated in the final. Four more titles were to follow and Declan has the distinction, held by very few in the GAA, of lifting Sam Maguire twice as captain. Those victories came in 2006 and 2007 as Mayo and Cork were beaten in the deciders. Declan became the first man since Tony Hanahoe 30 years earlier to lift the cup for a second time. Only eight players in total have had that honour. Further All-Ireland senior medals followed in 2009 and again in 2014. In addition to his five All-Ireland medals Declan also won eight Munster titles and three National League medals. He is also a three-time All-Star winner. Those awards were won consecutively from 2007 to 2009. In 70 championship appearances for Kerry Declan amassed a total score of 8-83. He was forced to retire due to injury in November 2014. Speaking ahead of the Bord Gáis Energy Legends Tour Declan O’Sullivan said: “Croke Park holds cherished memories for me and I really look forward to hosting the tour on August 27. I was lucky enough to line out for my county for over a decade and I always saw it as an honour and a privilege and to have enjoyed the success I did with my teammates was a dream come true. I hope to see some familiar faces on the tour on what is a huge weekend for Kerry football.” Legends Tours include a trip to the GAA Museum, which is home to many exclusive exhibits, including the official GAA Hall of Fame.
