Inauspicious star t for cups
THE Junior Cups got off to a rather inauspicious start last weekend with walk overs from away teams and re-fixtures being the order of the day.
To be fair to the clubs, many have been under pressure to field in the junior league and cup competitions this year while the additional games in the senior county league have also had a knock-on effect at junior level. The following is the situation in the various competitions.
Molyneaux Cup There are two semi finals down for decision this Wednesday evening; Dr Crokes play Austin Stacks at Lewis Road and Kerins O’Rahilly’s are home to Rathmore. Both games throw-in at 7pm.
McElligott Cup In the Quar ter-finals last weekend Laune Rangers got a walkover from Moyvane and Spa got a walkover from Listowel Emmets while St Pats defeated Ballydonoghue 4-5 to 2-10. The remaining quar ter final sees John Mitchels play Gneeveguilla on Friday evening. The first semi final between St Pats and Laune Rangers will be played on this Friday evening while the winners of the John Mitchels V Gneeveguilla game will play Spa in the other semifinal on Friday 2.
Barrett Cup In Round 1 last weekend, Clounmacon got a walkover from Castleisland Desmonds, Kenmare got a walkover from Na Gaeil and Beaufor t got a walkover from Glenbeigh/Glencar. The four quar ter final are down for decision on this Friday evening with first named having home venue (7pm); St. Mary’s V Glenflesk; Clounmacon V Ardfert; Currow V Beaufor t and Kenmare V Lispole.
Cahill Cup In Round 1 last weekend, Cromane got a walkover from Ballymacelligott and Tarber t got a walkover from Annascaul. On this Friday evening, Beale play Castlegregory and St Michael’s-Foilmore play Skellig Rangers. The draw for the quar ter-finals to be played on September 2: Beale or Castlegregory V Charlie Kerins; Cromane V St. Michaels/Foilmore or Skellig Rangers, St. Senans V Churchill; Tarber t have a bye.
