The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
DROMID PEARSES
Sraith Sinsir Chiarrai. Round 10. Venue: Pairc An Phiarsaigh Date Saturday August 20. Result: Piarsaigh Na Dromoda 1-08 Gneeveguilla 1-08
Another vital game for the Pearses to win, as relegation is still a possibility and equally it was an opportunity for the hosts to be in contention for a promotion. For the second week in a row it was another long journey for the South Kerry team to Gneeveguilla but it didn’t deter the supporters as it was very well attended by both sides. The wet and windy conditions were going to play their part in keeping it a low scoring game. And so it was the fifth minute before their free taker Fergus McAuliffe scored from play and he added a further three points from frees in the first half. However, the Pearses followed with their first of four points in a row from Criostóir Ó Faircheallaigh. Niall Ó Sé had an opportunity to score the first goal of the match but was dragged down in the square and this went controversially unrewarded. Cian Ó Sé’s return to the team was short lived as he had to replaced through injury by Dominic Ó Suilleabháin who was himself recovering from an injury sustained a number of weeks ago. The half time score was Dromid’s 0.06 to Gneeveguilla 0.05
The first score of the second half was to continue in the same vain with the majority of scores coming from frees. Gneeveguilla had their first free within the first minute and a goal from Don Murphy stretched their lead. Dromid had two missed goal opportunities and had only added two points from Niall O Sé frees by the dying minutes of normal time but some opportunistic play and determination from Niall Ó Sé saw the goal in the back of the net. Trailing by a point in injury time and missing a free looked like a one point win from Gneeveguilla but once again a well taken point from Niall Ó Sé was to be the equaliser. The final score was Piarsaigh na Dromoda 1.08 to Gneeveguilla 1.08.
