New School Year: Best of luck to all the young boys and girls beginning school. They are the ‘best days of your life’-believe it or not. To those transitioning to secondary and college, we hope you enjoy your new surroundings and progress well in your education. Senior League: Comhghairdeas to Milltown/Castlemaine, who on a wet and windy Saturday evening were crowned Senior League Winners for 2016 – defeating Beaufort on a scoreline of 1-11 to 1-09. The’ Dermot Twiss Memorial Cup’ was presented to M/C captain Dónal Kelleher. Special thanks to our Man of the Match Award sponsors Seán and Kathleen Counihan Griffin’s Bar, Castlemaine. Our captain-Dónal Kelliher-had a tremendous game and was duly awarded the ‘Man of the Match’. Well done to Mike Hickey, Mike Carroll and Timmy Teahan for their commitment and to the players for giving it their all. O’Sullivan Cup: Milltown Castlemaine are at home to Glenbeigh/Glencar in Rd. One of of the O’Sullivan Cup on Tuesday, August 23, at 7 p.m.
UNDER 13-ROSE CUP: Our under-13 sides participated in the ‘Rose Cup’ over the weekend in Tralee. Their never say die attitude bore fruits in the first match against Kerins O’Rahillys – with a last kick game winning point. Next up was a comprehensive win over Listowel Emmett’s. They lost out to a strong Laune Rangers side in the final group game but battled gallantly to the end. In the semi-final, they had a good victory over St Senan’s – with the boys showing great skill and determination. In the final, they played Ballymac, but unfortunately tired limbs and a much younger side proved too much. It was a gallant effort from the team – with all but three under-13 again next year. Well done to the boys in reaching the last four and to their mentors who have worked tremendously hard all year with them. Also a mention to the parents for their fantastic support on the day. It was very much appreciated by the mentors.
Kerry Minors: Best of luck to our club player Cormac Leane and the Kerry minors in Croke Park on Sunday. Peter Keane has done wonderful work preparing these young footballers. Let’s hope they are duly rewarded. Lost and Found: A mobile phone was found in our GAA Grounds after Fun Football on Thursday evening last. Please message to this number (086 1703332) if you have mislaid your phone.
Under-eights: The future of ladies’ football certainly looks bright in Milltown Castlemaine – with our under-eight girls giving a brilliant display of their football skills against Laune Rangers, on Thursday last. Well done to the girls and to their mentors who have coached them throughout the year and to the Laune Rangers team for a great game. A special thanks to the parents for their continued support and encouragement.
Under-16: Well done to our under-16 panel who have qualified for the county final with a great win over Glenflesk on a scoreline of 2.10 to 1.11, Great credit to the players and management for all the hard work and commitment they have exhibited. They will play Churchill in the Co. League Div. Three final on Wednesday, August 24 – time and venue not available when going to press. Please head along and give them your support. Mid Kerry under-12 League: Our latest encounter was with our neighbours – Keel last week. This was a cracking game between two evenly matched teams with our teams finishing strongly to record the win.
