The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)

Killorglin

-

Eddie Linehan, Storyteller Killorglin Town, was fantastic on Saturday last for young and the not so young. Outside the Library, we had birds of pray, native trees, deligs, painting for young ones, information on Salmon on the River Laune, or the lack of Salmon, where to get your permit and all about the Anglers Guides like Billy Cotter, Michael OShea, Richard Barry and John Scanlan. Seán Hurley of Kerry Radio was walkabout and spoke to many people at Library Place, Killorglin. On we went to CYMS Hall, where the Storyteller, Eddie Lenihan, of Radio and TV fame had all of us spellbound with his stories of Fairies and the power that they had in days of yore. The children loved his actions, he moved so easily, hands outstrechaed. We have been listening to these stories for the past 40 years or more and now, we do believe in fairies.. Well done Eddie, you did a fine job. Another fairy was loose around the hall, Tom OSullivan, asking children if they wanted to learn to play the Bohrann and with a couple of lessons from Tom, they had the beat. Tommy, Clodagh and Muiris were star pupils, he said. I thought so too. Tom is a great musician and likes to see young people taking an interest in all kinds of instruments. Tom also gave a map of the areas around Killorglin and poetry by Edso Crowley, lovely verses of Killorglin Town. There is a small town called Killoglin With a hill for a heart that is high And the Laune is the blood that runs through it A river both noble and shy For it comes and it goes in its living It rises and falls with each tide And it’s people are want to be giving And welcome each one to its side

And welcome each one to its side. There two more verses in this song and great when Edso sings this himself, he has a strong voice, for sure. Tom OSullivan put the music to this Killorgin song. The talent that is in Killoglin is second to none. More power to ye.
