DOG SHOW SPECTACLE TO RETURN TO CASTLEISLA­ND

THE annual Tralee and District Canine Club is due to return to An Riocht Athletic Club grounds in Castleisla­nd on Saturday, August 27.

It’s an event that spans morning to evening and delights the dog loving population of the valley. It caters for the huge influx of owners and breeders from all over Ireland and Europe and will see some 2,000 dogs in competitio­n. Judges from all over the world will come to put the dogs through their paces.

CYCLE THE RING OF KERRY BACKWARDS FOR DONAL WALSH

CYCLE the Ring of Kerry the wrong way round or the hard way round for the Killarney Cycling Festival on Saturday, August 27.

Now in its third year there are two tantalizin­g routes are on offer. There will be food stops dotted along the 160km and 180km routes and official festival road captains to accompany and guide you along the way. The registrati­on fees will be used to finance the running of the event and any surplus made will also be donated to the Donal Walsh LiveLife Foundation.

MID KERRY VINTAGE RALLY AT CASTLEMAIN­E

IT’S that time of year again when old machinery from the distant past gets dusted down, given a drop of oil, and brought to Brackhill, Castlemain­e, to help raise funds for vital cancer support services in Kerry.

Sunday August 28 is the date for this year’s Mid Kerry Vintage Rally and Denis Tangney, Mike McKenna and Brendan Dennehy have been threshing their way through the busy workload involved in organising the event. Thousands of people passed through the gates last year helping to raise over €30,000 and there’s every indication this year’s Rally will draw even more people.

CHARITY SING OFF IN AID OF ANTHONY MORRIS

THE friends of Anthony Morris will host Killarney’s first ever Sing Off in the INEC this Thursday night, August 25. Monies raised will go directly into the Anthony Morris fund to help the Killarney man pay for vital medical treatments in the US to the value of €120,000.

Contestant­s will battle it out for the title in a lip sync contest on the night. Ticket prices are €15 for adults and €10 for children. For more informatio­n, contact Jim on 0860893466.

LOTS TO DO AT HERITAGE WEEK IN TRALEE

KERRY County Museum has unveiled a packed programme of events to be held to coincide with Heritage Week which will run until Sunday, August 28.

As well as a lecture on the Kerry witnesses at the trial of Roger Casement, there will be a walking tour of medieval Tralee and a display of the dresses worn by the Roses of Tralee over the past 56 years and a showing of a film about Ireland’s and Argentina’s fight for Independen­ce.

DANIEL O’CONNELL SUMMER SCHOOL 2016

THE Daniel O Connell Summer School will take place from this Friday, August 26 until Sunday, August 28 in the Cahersivee­n Library.

The three day event will see inspiratio­nal talks from Dr Dermot Lynch, Michael Clifford and Professor Brigid Laffan. These will include ‘Pádraig Pearse and the Cult of the Victorian Gael’, ‘Cycling in Rural Ireland’ and many more expert talks on the 19th and 20th century Irish and European Culture.

CARAGH LAKE CHALLENGE

Don’t miss your chance to swim the length of this awesome and unspoiled lake in Glenbeigh. There are two entry options of either an 8km or 4km swim.

Participan­ts may complete the challenge either non-wetsuit or wearing a wetsuit. If you intend to attempt the 8km swim, you must have completed a swim of at least 4.5km. If you are attempting the 4km swim, you must have completed a swim of at least 3km. Registrati­on will start at 12.30pm at The Red Fox.

BACK TO SCHOOL DISCO IN MUSTANG SALLYS

KILLARNEY No Name Club presents the back to school Disco this Friday, August 28 from 8pm to 11pm. DJ Beckz and Buckz will be on hand to provide the best remixes around for teenagers to enjoy one last outing before returning to school.

This is a no alcohol event and will take place in Mustang Sally’s nightclub located on Main Street in Killarney.

MUSICIANS SUPPORT CHURCH RESTORATIO­N

A fundraisin­g concert in aid of the St John’s Restoratio­n Fund will take place at St John’s Church of Ballybunio­n tonight, Wednesday at 8pm.

Among the artists who will perform on the night are Michael Nash, Anna-Mai Wallm St John’s parish choir and Danny Houlihan. Noel Nash will be Masters of Ceremonies and the singers will be accompanie­d by Mark Mulvihill, Chris Kiely and musical director, Denise Wrenn.

SPA FENIT MARK HERITAGE WEEK

SPA Fenit Community Council will celebrate National Heritage Week at the old Forge in Churchil on Saturday, August 27.

The event will see various arts and crafts from bygone ages showcased in what is one of the few working forges in the country. Skills on display will include horse shoeing, beekeeping, sugan chair making and more. There will also be a vintage car and tractor run and other farm machinery on display as well as music, dance and story-telling.
