‘SOPHISTICATED’ GROW HOUSE IN ABBEYDORNEY
DRUGS UNIT UNCOVER €11K WORTH OF CANNABIS PLANTS IN ‘STATE OF THE ART’ PURPOSE BUILT FACILTY
GARDAÍ have seized over €11,000 worth of cannabis plants in what they have described as a ‘highly sophisticated’ and ‘state-of-the-art’ grow house on the outskirts of Abbeydorney village.
The discovery was made on Sunday night when members of the Garda Divisional Drugs Unit conducted a planned search of a private residence outside the village.
Inside the property they discovered what they say was a purpose built cannabis grow house which contained some of the most sophisticated equipment used in the cultivation of the drug.
Inside the facility was over €8,000 worth of cannabis plants were discovered, as well as an estimated €3,000 worth harvested cannabis which gardaí say was ‘ready for the market.’
A garda source told The Kerryman that the raid on the Abbeydorney premises was part on an ongoing investigation and confirmed that one man in his 40s was arrested and questioned. He was released without charge while a file in the case is being prepared.
The drugs were seized by gardaí and the grow house was subsequently disassembled, they added.
“This was a particularly sophisticated operation using a significant amount of high quality, state of the art growing equipment in a purpose built facility,” a garda source said.
“A man in his 40s was arrested and questioned and a file is now being prepared in the case.”
Gardaí have ruled out any link between Sunday night’s raid in Abbeydorney and a significant seizure of heroin and cocaine in a separate property in the village last month.
In July a raid on a private residence with sniffer dogs uncovered €5,000 worth or heroin and an estimated €5,000-worth of cocaine and/ or amphetamines.
“There is no link between the two and we are dealing with a separate individual,” the source confirmed.
