Air Corps shoot stunning aerial images of Kerry

CORPS PHOTOGRAPHERS’ RARELY SEEN IMAGES ARE PUBLISHED ONLINE

- By SIMON BROUDER

THE Irish Air Corps have captured a variety of stunning images of the Kerry coastline.

In recent months the Corps has been publishing a selection of the most beautiful images taken by its team of specialist photographers.

Unsurprisingly given the spectacular nature of the Kerry coastline images from the skies above The Kingdom make up a considerable portion of the Air Corps aerial photography archive.

This small selection of images, drawn from a vast collection of aerial snaps posted on Facebook, give a whole new perspective to the Air Corps beat.

The Air Corps carries out approximately 5,500 missions a year, ranging from army and naval support to maritime patrols, search and rescues, air ambulances, surveys and more.

On almost all of these missions photographers are carried on board for operational purposes.

The majority of these photos were taken by members of 105 ‘Photographic and Airborne Imaging’ Squadron while they were crew members on maritime patrol.

The photographers are on board to capture images of unlawful activity - such as illegal fishing or drug shipments - but on occasion they are treated to some wonderful views of Ireland’s landscape and cannot resist capturing the scenic pictures.

To see more of the photos – of Kerry and elsewhere – readers can log on to the Air Corps’ Facebook page.
