Dr Crokes win Molyneaux Cup while Gneeveguilla claim McElligot Cup
Dr Crokes 2-15 Rathmore 0-10
TWO first half goals did the damage as Dr Crokes defeated Rathmore in the Molyneaux Cup final by 2-15 to 0-10 in Rathbeg on Saturday after the town side led by 2-7 to 0-3 at the break, with Chris Doncel netting the two goals.
Rathmore did hold their own in the second half with scores from the likes of Michael O’Riordan especially and John O’Keeffe and some spirited play by Mark T Reen and Brian Moynihan but the town side prevailed.
After the game the Molyneaux Cup was presented to Dr Crokes captain Mark Egan by Assistant Secretary of the County Committee Stephen O’Sullivan.
MCELLIGOTT CUP FINAL Gneeveguilla 5-11 Laune Rangers 0-13
GOALS win games and so it proved at a sunny Lewis Road on Saturday afternoon as Gneeveguilla powered past Laune Rangers to claim their fifth McElligott Cup title in a row on a 5-11 to 0-13 scoreline.
Goals by Damien O’Sullivan and Cornelius Crowley (2) saw the winners lead by 3-4 to 0-9 at the break and further goals from Padraig Doyle and Shane O’Sullivan clinched victory for the Sliabh Luáchra side with Daniel Whittleton’s goal for Laune Rangers coming too late to affect the result as Timmy Brosnan became the latest Gneeveguilla man to accept the McElligott Cup.
