Hot-pots beaten in Kennedy semi-finals
IT was business as usual at Tralee Track on Saturday and particular attention focused on two semi-finals of the Steve Kennedy Memorial A5 525 Sweepstake (winner, €1,350).
It came as a huge surprise that the two hot-pots in the semi-finals, Slippy Maska (4/7) and Harry Thinks So (1/2), were beaten, though Slippy Maska did qualify for this Friday night’s final.
Slippy Maska finished a length and a half behind the fast-starting Headleys Vic in a hot 28.67 in the first semi-final, while the second semi-final was won in 29.05 by Baltovin Rumble, with Harry Thinks So back in fourth place after finding serious first-bend trouble.
The draw for the final this Friday night is as follows (trap order): Ashford Princess, Ashford Cindy, Baltovin Rumble, Headleys Vic, Slippy Maska, Bearhaven Eske.
Saturday night’s supporting card saw Oak Spice follow up on a win the previous night by scoring over the sprint distance in 17.83, while the other winners were: Breton Barry, 18.13; Cork Tosso, 30.03; Spirit Eileen, 18.03; Tallasshe Lady, 29.70; Nocturnal Naomi, 29.06; Sign On Tiger, 28.74.
TUESDAY NIGHT
THE highlight of racing at last week’s Tuesday meeting at Tralee Track was a terrific run of 28.57 by Hes Easy, from the Tarbert kennels of Patrick O’Connor. Installed the 7/4 favourite, Hes Easy ran from trap 3 and, once in front around the opening bend, he turned the race into something of a procession, having six lengths to spare at the line from Omega Gen.
The night also produced a double for Boherbue (Co Cork) owner, John Corkery, who clicked with Pats Boher (28.97) and his litter brother, Miles From Boher (29.33), while the other winners were: Oak Spice (17.78); Anascaul River (28.91), Kilcurra Mia (29.22), Deadly Pepe (17.67), Millridge Lola, 17.71; County Colours (29.15); Baltovin Olly (29.35).
