Deadline nears for US Morrison visas

THE United States Embassy in Dublin have announced the opening of initial applications for the AA-1 (Morrison) immigrant visa programme which will result in the availability of 40,000 immigrant visas over the next three years, beginning on October 1.
The program was established by the 1990 Immigration Act and signed by President George Bush in November. In the next three years, no less than 16,000 of the immigrant visas will be reserved for persons born in the Irish republic, resulting in the availability of at least 48,000 additional immigrant visas for persons born in the 26 counties over the next three years.
Persons interested in registering for this year’s program should submit applications by mail to the following address: AA-1 Program, P.O Box 60 000, Arlington, Virginia 22218-0001 USA.
The application period for the first year’s immigration programme will be from October 14 to 20. Applications will be registered in chronological order of their arrival and persons will be called for further processing in the order that the initial applications are received. Applications received before and after the forementioned dates will not be considered.
There are no application forms per se so applicants must submit a typed sheet which should include the applicant’s full name, dale and place of birth and current mailing address.
The name should be as it appears on the applicants birth certificate.
If an applicant is married, the names, dates and places of birth of his or her spouse and children should also be included. The applicant should also list the location of the US consular office serving his current residence. The appropriate consular office for persons living in the Republic is the US Embassy, Consular Section, Hume House, Pembroke Road, Dublin 4.
Contrary to requirements listed in the draft regulation for this programme, applicants are not required to submit a written offer of employment at the time of the initial application. However, before receiving an immigrant visa, applicants will be asked to provide such evidence.
People born in the republic should type or print ‘Ireland’ on the outside upper left hand corner of the envelope in which the application is beine posted.
