Stag party ban call after hens ‘hijack’ mini bus

September 1991

-

A DISTRICT Justice has called for the banning of all stag parties describing them as dangerous.

This follows the “hijacking” of a mini-bus by women at a hen party.

The bus had been organised to pick up men at the stag party in Cronin’s pub, Kilflynn - but as the result of the hens’ intervention, the stags found themselves stranded and the publican found himself in Court.

Tom Cronin, Cronin’s Bar, Kilflynn was fined £100 for a breach of the licensing law on April 28, by Justice Aidan OT Jonnell at Listowel Court.

Supt Liam Leonard told the court that Garda Tom Collins found a number of people on the premises at 3.46 am.

“There is no excuse for having a large number of people on the premises at that time,” he said.

Supt Leonard said that Mr Cronin had a previous conviction for breach of the licensing laws in October 1990 amd was fined £50.

Solicitor, Dave Ramsay told the court that Mr Cronin’s son, Myles had arranged a stag party for his best friend in the pub. They had arranged to have a mini bus pick them up when the pub closed. But the women at the hen party hijacked the bus and arrived out at Cronins to pick up the stag party,” Mr Ramsay said.

“One thing led to another but I would like to stress that no money changed hands. It was just and unfortunate incident where the hen got in the way,” Mr Ramsay added.

Justice Aidan O’ Donnell said that he didn’t want to hear anymore. “All stag parties should be banned, they are dangerous things,” he said.

All those found on the premises were fined £25.
