Kerry girls help Munster to victory

- By GER MULVIHILL

KERRY was strongly represented on the Munster panel that defeated Connacht in the opening round of the Interprovincial series on Saturday.

Two of the county’s most progressive clubs - Listowel RFC and Tralee RFC had six squad members between them, Caolainn Healy, Ciara Shine, Dearbhla Canty, Murine Wall and Hayley Betts, all playing pivotal roles in the match. Listow- el was the most represented club on the day. Likewise, Tralee’s Aisling Brosnan showed tremendous passion to break the resilience of Connacht’s defensive line in the 12th minute. Her try proved the catalyst for a rout that saw Munster run out emphatic winners on a score line of 33-7.

Second Row, Dearbhla Canty said: “I was absolutely delighted I got selected this year as we had a very strong training squad”.

“I went for trials for the past three years and had never been selected and now that I have been it shows that hard work does pay off.”

“This shows that our club has grown so much over the years”, she said, before joking, “The girls are showing up the lads!”.

Kieran O’Reilly, Director of Women’s rugby at the club said that all at the club are very proud of the girl’s wonderful achievements. The success he says, is testament to the commitment of the committee and its pledge to furthering women’s rugby in the club.
