No formal complaint after second sex attack claim at Bon Secours Tralee

- By SIMON BROUDER

GARDAÍ in Tralee say no formal complaint has been made in relation to a second sex assault allegation that has been made against a former medic at the Bon Secours Private Hospital in the town.

A file on the alleged rape of a 61 year old woman at the hospital on September 10 is being prepared for the DPP and gardaí say they have gathered “substantial forensic evidence” and have interviewed a large number of Bon Secours staff.

The alleged rape occurred as the woman was changing into her clothes after the undergoing a CT scan.

The accused man – who was employed by Alliance Medical the company contracted to run the MRI and CT suite at Bon Secours Tralee – is now understood to have left the county with his wife and child.

The man – who has not been arrested or charged – is no longer employed by Alliance Medical and no longer works at Bon Secours Tralee. He has a clean employment record and underwent garda vetting on two occasions and had been cleared to work in the hospital on both occasions.

While he is understood to have remained in Tralee for several days after the rape allegation was made against him the medic – who was employed the Bon Secours Tralee since 2009 – did not keep an appointment with gardaí in Tralee late last week.

It is thought he may have have left the country. Gardaí say they have not been in a position to confirm his whereabouts.

No formal charges of any kind have been made against him.

Last week a second woman – aged 65 – claimed that she too had been sexually assaulted by the same medic during a visit to the hospital several weeks before the alleged rape.

According to relatives, the second alleged victim – who made the claims to her family – is still traumatised and does not wish to make an official complaint.

Gardaí in Tralee say they have made enquiries in relation to the second allegation but that no official complaint has been made.

The Bon Secours is not commenting on the investigation and all media enquiries are being referred to Alliance Medical.

Alliance Medical – who said they have had no contact with the medic at the centre of the allegations since he left their employment – said they are co-operating fully with the garda enquiry and are carrying out their own internal investigation.
