Hundreds line out for CBS The Green fun run
THE atmosphere was electric in the school yard and surrounding areas of the CBS, The Green on Sunday morning as hundreds of runners, both young and old, took part in the Tralee school’s second annual 3km/5km fundraising run.
The event, a fundraiser for the school’s brand new all-weather pitch, which is currently under construction, attracted close to 400 athletes.
There was an electrifying sense of excitement as the sound of pounding feet at the start line, gave way to the thunderous sound of applause at the finish.
“We’re absolutely thrilled with how it went, we were hoping that the weather would hold off and although we had a few drops of rain here and there, it didn’t dampen the atmosphere of all those who took part,” said organiser, Karen Tobin.
“It’s a great event and we’ve a lot of people that have no association with the school that have come down to show their support. It’s a wonderful community and family event, it’s great to see the parents out enjoying themselves with the kids,” she continued.
“We couldn’t have run the event without the support of so many people; Norman Foley from Spar on the Castlemaine Road, he did the silverware and the medals for us.
Lee Strand as well, they’ve come on board every year for us; all the refreshments have all been donated by the community. It’s just been fantastic” she finished.
